It was at the Ashram Shantivanam of Father Bede Griffiths on the banks of the River Cauvery in Tamil Nadu Southern India where I first heard of Rupert Sheldrake from the lips of Father Bede Griffiths himself. It was there at that ashram where Rupert Sheldrake wrote his first book against the Dogma of western science which eventually removed him from Biochemistry and led him to parapsychology. It was that heretical opposition to the Dogma of Western Science which led to the removal, the censorship, of his TED talk from the TED Archives.

This talk is about the world view of all educated people and Sheldrake writes about it in his book - "The Science Delusion"

Sheldrake turns these Ten scientific dogmas or hypotheses of Western Philosophical Materialism into questions to see how they stand up to reason, and in his book they don't stand up very well..

1. Everything is a machine; as Richard Dawkins says, "We are all lumbering robots" People are machines, animals are machines, plants and insects are machines. This world is a machine. The Universe is a machine. Man is not made in the Image of God. There is no, "Imago Dei", that spark of God within every human being and animal which prevents people from being treated like an animal or slave. That spark of God which gives everyone inherent human rights.

THE ENERGY ENHANCEMENT IMAGO DEI AND SECRET KNOWLEDGE OF THE NEOPLATONIC ELITE The survival of the species demands a revival of the "secret knowledge" of the Neoplatonic elite. That knowledge must not only be revived, but as we do here, must be situated within and updated by appropriate terms of modern scientific and Energy Enhancement Spiritual knowledge.

2. There is no consciousness in any human being. There is no consciousness in Stars, Trees or Plants.

6. Biological heredity is material. Everything you inherit comes from mechanical genes or epigenetic modifications of genes or cytoplasmic inheritance. All mechanistic.

7. Memories are stored inside your brain. No-one knows how memory works but nevertheless everyone in the scientific world believes memory is solely in the brain.

8. Your mind is inside your head. All of your consciousness is only the activity of your brain inside your head.

9. Psychic phenomena like telepathy are impossible. Your thoughts and intensions cannot have any effect at a distance because your mind is inside your head. All evidence for telepathy is illusory.

10. Mechanistic medicine is the only kind which works. Governments only fund research into mechanistic medicine and ignore complementary and alternative therapies like acupuncture and homeopathy and natural healing and which can't possibly work. They can't work because they are not mechanistic. If people get cured by alternative therapies then they would have got better anyway or because of the placebo effect.

These ten dogmas of Western Materialistic Philosophy are held by all educated people everywhere yet every one of these dogmas, when looked at scientifically, fall apart.

An evolving universe means evolving habits and there needs to be a mechanism for that.

The Sheldrake hypothesis of Morphic Resonance of collective memory does that.

An Einstein of a monkey on an island learned to open shell fish with a stick. He taught it to all the other monkeys on the island. As soon as one hundred monkeys learned the trick the same method became common amongst monkeys on all the other islands.

Rupert Sheldrake (born 28 June 1942) is an English biologist and author. He is known for his work on plant hormones, crop physiology, and for having proposed a non-standard account of morphogenesis and for his research into parapsychology. His books and papers stem from his hypothesis of morphic resonance, and cover topics such as animal and plant development and behaviour, memory, telepathy, perception and cognition in general.

Sheldrake's publications include A New Science of Life (1981), Seven Experiments That Could Change the World (1994), Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home (1999), The Sense of Being Stared At (2003), and The Science Delusion: Freeing the Spirit of Enquiry, called Science Set Free in the US (2012).

Biography

Early life and education

Sheldrake was born in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire to Doris (née Tebbutt) and Reginald Alfred Sheldrake (b. 1903), a family of Methodists. His father graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in pharmacy, was also an amateur naturalist and microscopist, and encouraged his son's interest in plants and animals.

Sheldrake attended Worksop College, an Anglican boarding-school, and specialized in science. He obtained a scholarship to study Biology at Clare College, Cambridge. He specialized in biochemistry, graduated with double-first-class honours, and won the University Botany Prize. He won a Frank Knox fellowship to study philosophy and history at Harvard University at around the time Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962) was published, which he writes informed his view on the extent to which the mechanistic theory of life is just a paradigm. He returned to Cambridge, where he obtained his Ph.D. in biochemistry.

Career

Sheldrake became a Fellow of Clare College, where he was Director of Studies in Biochemistry and Cell biology, and a Research Fellow of the Royal Society.

As a biochemist, Sheldrake researched the role of auxin, a plant hormone, in the cellular differentiation of a plant's vascular system. With his colleague Philip Rubery, he worked out the cellular mechanism of Polar auxin transport, on which much subsequent research on plant polarity has been based. He also studied the nature of ageing, and published a wide-ranging paper in Nature on the ageing, growth and death of cells.[9] He ended this line of study when he concluded, "The system is circular, it does not explain how [differentiation is] established to start with. After nine years of intensive study, it became clear to me that biochemistry would not solve the problem of why things have the basic shape they do." He then worked on the physiology of tropical crops in Hyderabad, India, as Principal Plant Physiologist at ICRISAT, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics from 1975 to 1985. For a year and a half he lived in the ashram of Bede Griffiths, where he wrote his first book, A New Science of Life.

More recently, drawing on the work of French philosopher Henri Bergson, Sheldrake has proposed that memory is inherent to all organically formed structures and systems. Where Bergson denied that personal memories and habits are stored in brain tissue, Sheldrake goes a step further by arguing that bodily forms and instincts, while expressed through genes, do not have their primary origin in them. Instead, his hypothesis states, the organism develops under the influence of previous similar organisms, by a mechanism he has dubbed morphic resonance.

Since 2003, Sheldrake has been a visiting Professor at The Graduate Institute in Bethany, Connecticut, where he was also Academic Director of the Holistic Learning and Thinking Program from 2003 to 2012.From September 2005 until 2010, Sheldrake was the Perrott-Warrick Senior Researcher in psychical research, appointed by Trinity College, Cambridge.

Sheldrake has a Methodist background but after a spell as an atheist found himself being drawn back to Christianity when in India, and is now an Anglican.

Sheldrake has made appearances in popular media, both on radio and on television. He was one of the subjects of a six-part documentary series called Heretic, broadcast on BBC 2 in 1994. On 18 May 2009, he appeared on The Museum of Curiosity on BBC Radio 4.

Sheldrake has entered into a scientific wager with fellow biologist Lewis Wolpert on the importance of DNA in the developing organism. Wolpert bet Sheldrake "a case of fine port, Quinta do Vesuvio 2005" that by the First of May 2029, "given the genome of a fertilised egg of an animal or plant, we will be able to predict in at least one case all the details of the organism that develops from it, including any abnormalities." Sheldrake denies that DNA contains a blueprint of morphological development. If the outcome is not obvious, the British Royal Society will be asked to determine the winner.

Research

Plant and Cell Biology

At Cambridge, Sheldrake first worked on the production of the plant hormone Auxin. He found that auxin is produced by dying cells, especially in germinating seeds and in differentiating Xylem cells, which die as they differentiate, an example of programmed cell death, or Apoptosis.[23] His work on polar auxin transport culminated in the discovery, together with Philip Rubery, of the cellular mechanism of polar auxin transport. The auxin efflux carrier, which Rubery and Sheldrake correctly predicted would be found at the basal or root-ward ends of cells, has subsequently been identified as one of a family of so-called PIN proteins.

As Principal Plant Physiologist at ICRISAT in Hyderabad, India, Sheldrake worked on the legume crops Chickpea and Pigeonpea, on which he published 17 papers as well as a monograph on the Anatomy of the Pigeonpea. He helped develop new cropping systems, some of which have been widely adopted in both India and China.

Morphic field

"Morphic field" is a term introduced by Sheldrake. He proposes that there is a field within and around a "morphic unit" which organizes its characteristic structure and pattern of activity. According to Sheldrake, the "morphic field" underlies the formation and behaviour of "holons" and "morphic units", and can be set up by the repetition of similar acts or thoughts. The hypothesis is that a particular form belonging to a certain group, which has already established its (collective) "morphic field", will tune into that "morphic field". The particular form will read the collective information through the process of "morphic resonance", using it to guide its own development. This development of the particular form will then provide, again through "morphic resonance", a feedback to the "morphic field" of that group, thus strengthening it with its own experience, resulting in new information being added (i.e. stored in the database). Sheldrake regards the "morphic fields" as a universal database for both organic (genetic) and abstract (mental) forms.

That a mode of transmission of shared informational patterns and archetypes might exist did gain some tacit acceptance when it was proposed as the theory of the collective unconscious by renowned psychiatrist Carl Jung. According to Sheldrake, the theory of "morphic fields" might provide an explanation for Jung's concept as well. Also, he agrees that the concept of akashic records, a term from the Vedas representing the "library" of all the experiences and memories of human minds (souls) through their physical lifetime, can be related to "morphic fields", since one's past (an akashic record) is a mental form, consisting of thoughts as simpler mental forms (all processed by the same mind), and a group of similar or related mental forms also have their associated (collective) "morphic field". (Sheldrake's view on memory-traces is that they are non-local, and not located in the brain.)

Morphic resonance

According to Sheldrake’s hypothesis of formative causation, morphic resonance is the influence of previous structures of activity on subsequent similar structures of activity organized by morphic fields. Through morphic resonance, formative causal influences pass through or across both space and time, and these influences are assumed not to fall off with distance in space or time, but they come only from the past. The greater the degree of similarity, the greater the influence of morphic resonance. In general, morphic units closely resemble themselves in the past and are subject to self-resonance from their own past states. Sheldrake suggests that memory depends on morphic resonance from an organism’s own past. Through morphic resonance each member of a species draws upon a collective memory and in turn contributes to it. In the most general terms, Sheldrake sees the so-called laws of nature as more like habits.

This general idea was suggested in the early twentieth century by the American philosopher C.S. Peirce and also advocated by the American physicist Lee Smolin in his book Time Reborn[35]. The American physicist David Bohm thought that morphic resonance agreed well with his own concept of the quantum “implicate order” with an inherent

Morphogenetic field

Morphogenetic fields are defined by Sheldrake as the subset of morphic fields which influence, and are influenced by living things.

The term [morphic fields] is more general in its meaning than morphogenetic fields, and includes other kinds of organizing fields in addition to those of morphogenesis; the organizing fields of animal and human behaviour, of social and cultural systems, and of mental activity can all be regarded as morphic fields which contain an inherent memory.

The term morphogenetic field generally referred to a "collection of cells by whose interactions a particular organ formed" in 1920s and 1930s experimental embryology. "The genetics program of biology was originally in direct opposition to the concept of morphogenetic fields... an alternative to the gene as the unit of ontogeny." Due to the success of genetics, the term fell into widespread disfavor in the 1960s, although it could be still be found in developmental biology literature regarding limb and heart fields. "In such instances, no claims are usually made other than that these areas of mesoderm are destined to form these particular structures". Sheldrake commented on the distinction between his usage and that of some other biologists, who he said use the term "morphic field" as a heuristic device, which is conceptually distinct from his own use of the term. He says that most developmental biologists regard morphogenetic fields as "a way of thinking about morphogenesis rather than something that really exists."

Telepathy

Sheldrake's research into telepathy between humans and animals, particularly dogs, was the main subject of his 1999 book "Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home".

In 2003 Sheldrake published research on human telepathy in an experiment where subjects guessed which of four people was going to telephone or send an email. Sheldrake reported that the subject guesses the person correctly about 40% of the time instead of the expected 25% (p=.05).

Sheldrake's work was the theme of a plenary session titled "Anomalies of Consciousness" of the 2008 Toward a Science of Consciousness conference, where he presented his work on telepathy in animals and humans, followed by three critiques of his work on the sense of being stared at.

Books

A New Science of Life

In his first book, A New Science of Life: The Hypothesis of Morphic Resonance, (1981) Sheldrake proposed that phenomena – particularly biological ones – become more probable the more often they occur, and therefore biological growth and behaviour become guided into patterns laid down by previous similar events. As a result, newly acquired behaviors are subject to inheritance by subsequent generations – a form of Lamarckism.[47] He suggested that this underlies many aspects of science, from evolution to laws of nature. Indeed, he suggested that the laws of nature are mutable habits that have evolved since the Big Bang.

Sheldrake's primary focus in this book is morphogenesis, which includes both embryonic cell differentiation and the development of the embryo as a whole. In chapter 2, "Three Theories of Morphogenesis," Sheldrake states that there are three historical approaches to morphogenesis: materialism (August Weismann), vitalism (Hans Driesch), and organicism (Alfred North Whitehead). Sheldrake describes his own hypothesis as fitting within the third tradition, which rejects a vitalistic principle exclusive to life but also denies that a strictly materialistic explanation will ever account for the holistic nature of organic forms. The next three chapters address form as a general topic, the traditional concept of morphogenetic fields, and the possibility that past forms directly influence current organic activity. He introduces his main idea in chapter 6, "Formative Causation and Morphogenesis" and devotes the remaining chapters to subsidiary topics such as inheritance, behavior, instinct and learning, and so on.

The book was discussed in a variety of scientific and religious publications, receiving mixed reviews. Then in September 1981, Nature published an editorial written by John Maddox, the journal's senior editor, entitled "A book for burning?" In it, Maddox said: Sheldrake's argument is an exercise in pseudo-science. Many readers will be left with the impression that Sheldrake has succeeded in finding a place for magic within scientific discussion – and this, indeed, may have been a part of the objective of writing such a book.

Maddox's comments raised what Anthony Freeman called "a storm of controversy". The New Scientist inquired whether Nature had abandoned the scientific method for "trial by editorial". Maddox did not act concerned by the criticism his comments received, and according to Freeman, the "furore that grew out of the assault in Nature put an end to [Sheldrake's] academic career and made him persona non grata in the scientific community." In a 1994 BBC documentary on Sheldrake's theory, Maddox elaborated on his views: Sheldrake's is not a scientific theory. Sheldrake is putting forward magic instead of science, and that can be condemned, in exactly the language that the Pope used to condemn Galileo, and for the same reasons: it is heresy.

The Presence of the Past

The Presence of the Past: Morphic Resonance and the Habits of Nature (1988) puts forward morphic resonance, one aspect of the "formative causation" hypothesis Sheldrake introduced in A New Science of Life, and presents evidence for it.

Sheldrake writes, "Since these past organisms are similar to each other rather than identical, when a subsequent organism comes under their collective influence, its morphogenetic fields are not sharply defined, but consist of a composite of previous similar forms. This process is analogous to composite photography, in which 'average' pictures are produced by superimposing a number of similar images. Morphogenetic fields are 'probability structures,' in which the influence of the most common past types combines to increase the probability that such types will occur again."[56]

In support of his hypothesis, Sheldrake cites replications of William McDougall's experiment with rats in a water maze and Mae-Wan Ho's replication of CH Waddington's experiment with fruit flies, as well as several psychology experiments involving human learning. Sheldrake contends that a number of biological anomalies are resolved by morphic resonance, including personal memory (which he contends would otherwise require the existence of an elaborate information-storage mechanism in the brain), atavism and parallel evolution. He argues that the existence of organizing fields – with or without inherent memory – would explain phenomena ranging from coordinated behavior among social insects, flocks of birds and schools of fish to the regeneration of severed limbs by salamanders or a sense of phantom limbs among amputees, as the organizing field of a limb would remain even after the limb itself had been lost.

Seven Experiments That Could Change the World

In 1994 Sheldrake proposed a list of Seven Experiments That Could Change the World. He encouraged lay people to contribute to scientific research, and argued that scientific experiments similar to his own could be conducted on a shoestring budget.

Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home

Seven Experiments included the seed of Sheldrake's next book, Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home. This covered his research into telepathy between humans and animals, particularly dogs. As the title indicates, Sheldrake carried out experiments aiming to show that dogs can tell when their owners are coming home, a phenomenon frequently reported by dog-owners. By videoing the dogs' behaviour, and making their owners come home at unpredictable times, he concluded that the dogs know when the owner has decided to set off home, and will go and wait by the door. This occurs even if the owner doesn't actually arrive home (having been contacted en route and told not to). Sheldrake's experiments were also intended to rule out other frequently-cited explanations, such as the dog being able to hear the owner's car much further away than humans can.

The book also summarized other experiments and reports of telepathy involving animals, such as an experiment on an African grey parrot that had apparently learned enough English words that it could describe photographs its owner was looking at in another room.

The Sense of Being Stared At

In 2003, Sheldrake published The Sense of Being Stared At on the psychic staring effect, including an experiment where blindfolded subjects guessed whether persons were staring at them or at another target. He reported that, in tens of thousands of trials, 60% of subjects reported being stared at when being stared at; 50% of subjects reported being stared at when they were not being stared at. According to Sheldrake, this suggested a weak sense of being stared at but no sense of not being stared at. He also claimed that these experiments were widely repeated, in schools in Connecticut and Toronto and a science museum in Amsterdam, with consistent results.

The Science Delusion / Science Set Free

The Science Delusion, published on 1 January 2012 in the U.K. and in the U.S. on 4 September 2012, as Science Set Free: 10 Paths to New Discovery, summarises much of his previous work and encapsulates it into a broader critique of modern materialism, with the title apparently mimicking that of The God Delusion by one of Sheldrake's critics, Richard Dawkins. (In an interview with Fortean Times, Sheldrake denied that Dawkins' book was the inspiration for his own. "The title was at the insistence of my publishers, and the book will be re-titled in the USA as Science Set Free. Dawkins is far less important outside Britain (...) Dawkins is a passionate believer in materialist dogma, but the book is not a response to him - although I do object to his dumbed-down representation of science.")[59] Sheldrake proposes a number of questions as the theme of each chapter, which seek to elaborate on his central premise that science is predicated on the belief that the nature of reality is fully understood, with only minor details needing to be filled in. This "delusion" is what Sheldrake argues has turned science into a series of dogmas, rather than a genuinely open-minded approach to investigating phenomena; he argues that there are many powerful taboos that circumscribe what scientists can legitimately direct their attention towards.

Reception

Sheldrake's work has little support in the mainstream scientific community. Members of the scientific community consider Sheldrake's claims to be currently unfalsifiable and therefore outside the scope of scientific experiment. The "morphic field" concept is believed by many to fall into the realm of pseudoscience.

Writers such as Arthur Koestler, Brian Inglis and John L. Randall have supported the work of Sheldrake.

Sheldrake's ideas have resonated with the general public and some physicists such as David Bohm. Bohm suggested that Sheldrake's hypothesis was in keeping with his own ideas on what he terms "implicate" and "explicate" order. Hans-Peter Dürr has called for further discussion of Sheldrake's hypothesis, describing it as one of the first to reconcile 20th-century breakthroughs in physics, which emphasize fields and the indivisible nature of matter, with biology, which he says for the most part remains rooted in 19th-century Newtonian concepts of particles and separateness. The idea that fields may influence cells has received cautious support from biologists Janis Roze and Sue Ann Miller. However, Sheldrake's work has met with a hostile reception from some other scientists. Biologist Michael Klymkowsky contends that "[w]e live in a macroscopic world. Quantum effects are essentially irrelevant". For more details on this topic, see quantum biology. In his Skeptic's Dictionary, Robert Todd Carroll stated, in an article highly critical of Sheldrake's theory of morphic resonance, that "although Sheldrake commands some respect as a scientist because of his education and degree, he has clearly abandoned conventional science in favor of magical thinking." Sheldrake has responded to Carroll’s polemic, describing it as “unscientific and unreliable”.

Germano Resconi and Masoud Nikravesh are sympathetic to Sheldrake's ideas, and base their concept of morphic computing directly upon Sheldrake's morphic fields and morphogenetic fields, but acknowledge that "Morphic fields and its subset morphogenetic fields have been at the center of controversy for many years in mainstream science and the hypothesis is not accepted by some scientists who consider it a pseudoscience."

The concept has attracted speculation from neurolinguistic programming, as an explanation for action at a distance. Sheldrake's book The Presence of the Past: Morphic Resonance and the Habits of Nature was positively reviewed by the physicist Amit Goswami.

Scientific reception

Morphic resonance predicts that memories of one generation are automatically passed on to the next generation, though unconsciously, or to other conspecifics. A neuroscientist and memory expert, Steven Rose, has been critical of this view. A major reason for the criticism is that Rose does not feel there to be any anomalous phenomena which require the theory of morphic resonance as an explanation. Rose suggested an experiment to resolve the matter. In Sheldrake's opinion the resulting study (see below), done in collaboration with Rose, supported morphic resonance, but Rose has challenged this.

Sheldrake's ideas have often met with a hostile reception from some scientists, including accusations that he is engaged in pseudoscience. However, at least two scientists who have attacked his work, thoroughgoing metaphysical naturalists Lewis Wolpert and Richard Dawkins, reportedly refused to even examine his evidence—a fact cited as illustrating the allegedly dogmatic nature of mainstream science alluded to in Sheldrake's book The Science Delusion.

Tests of the staring effect

David Marks and John Colwell, writing in the Skeptical Inquirer (2000), criticized the experimental procedures Sheldrake had developed for tests designed to demonstrate the existence of the staring effect.[80] Apart from the fact that Sheldrake had encouraged the involvement of lay members of the public in research of the effect, Marks and Colwell suggested that the sequences used in tests followed the same patterning that people who guess and gamble like to follow.[80] These guessing patterns have relatively few long runs and many alternations.[80] The non-randomness of test sequences could thus lead to implicit or explicit pattern learning when feedback is provided.[80] When the patterns being guessed mirror naturally occurring guessing patterns, the results could go above or below chance levels even without feedback.[80] Thus significant results could occur purely from non-random guessing.[80] Non-randomization is one of seven flaws in parapsychological research identified by Marks.[81]

Michael Shermer wrote in Scientific American (2005) that there were a number of objections to Sheldrake's experiments on the sense of being stared at, reiterating Marks' and Colwell's points about non-randomization and the use of unsupervised laypeople, and adding confirmation bias and experimenter bias to the list of potential problems; he concluded that Sheldrake's claim was unfalsifiable.[82]

Sheldrake (2004, 2005) responded to the criticisms by stating that the experiments had been widely replicated; the results from an independent meta-analysis by parapsychology researcher Dean Radin, which had excluded all data from unsupervised tests, were shown to be highly significant; and the Marks-Colwell suggestion of non-randomization had been refuted by thousands of trials with different randomization methods, including coin-tossing, yielding positive and highly statistically significant results, whatever the randomization method.

2006 British Association controversy

In September 2006, Sheldrake and Peter Fenwick (a near-death experience researcher) were invited by the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BA) to speak at an event at the University of East Anglia, which resulted in criticism from Lord Winston, Peter Atkins, Richard Wiseman and the Royal Society.

The editors of The Times took a different view in an editorial entitled "It goes without saying that telepathy works". BBC Radio 5 brought together Sheldrake and Atkins to discuss Atkins' claim that "There is absolutely no reason to suppose that telepathy is anything more than a charlatan's fantasy." Atkins admitted that he had not studied any of the evidence and felt no need to do so. The controversy was summarized in an article in The Science Reporter by the science writer Ted Nield.

Rupert is married to Jill Purce, and they have two sons, the biologist Merlin Sheldrake and the musician Cosmo Sheldrake.

At the age of 14 Satchidanand went into a state of Altered consciousness when he experienced his own death. After that Satchidanand started practising yoga from the age of 15 in 1967 and was taught meditation by Zen Master Hogen in 1980. When I was fourteen I had another experience in dream. I saw my own death. I saw the process of my own life as a very boring experience without meaning and purpose. Getting my "O" Levels and "A" Level examinations. Going to University and getting my Degree. getting married and getting 2.4 happy children. Meaningless happy work and then on my 85th birthday going to hospital with tubes coming out of me and seeing my blood drain away out of these holes and then feeling my own death. I was feeling my death profoundly for 3 days after the experience and I had the feeling that it was time to Speed Up!!

I began the process of Hatha Yoga from books. I was persuaded by an article by Sir Alec Rose I saw in a Sunday Newspaper.

The same experience happened when I was Twenty-One years old and the profound feeling of seeing my own Death again and again the feeling that I needed to Speed Up!! I had the knowledge that year that, "I was the Captain of my Ship" and I began the very real dialogue with my Soul.

I began the Process of Pranayama when I was 21 and took to reading Gurdjieff and Eric Berne.

When I was Twenty Eight I decided it was time to meditate and after One Year of meditating every day by myself and becoming a Yoga teacher and Aikido Student I encountered my Zen Master.

I was very happy with Zen Master Hogen. Every Day as soon as I got out of bed, for many years, I would meditate. But strangely I found more and more that I was getting thrown out of bed every morning by him so I could meditate. And he was connected to me, "Can you feel my breeze blowing? Even from Ten Thousand Miles!" I had the vision several times of him polishing my base chakra whilst I was sitting in meditation.

Because "Through Luck" "And to be Spiritual, you have to be lucky" I was using Energy Enhancement Grounding and connection with the chakras above the head in my Zazen meditation - something I never mentioned to anyone - I progressed very rapidly in meditation. In my first Sessein I was in pain but still did not require much sleep on the course. On my second sessein I managed to exist in a state of Samadhi in the chakras above the head. The only way to stop the pain is to exist in the "Highest Heart" out of the body - "All sages and saints for thousands of years live in Prajna Paramita" - Gautama Buddha from the Heart Sutra Translation

Hogen took one look and said to my friend and yoga teacher, Granville Cousins, "Look how much he has grown!"

I went to a Greek Island with Hogen back around 1987 where he was giving a course with Yoga Teachers Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten. I was there with Hogen because I was to act as his general factotum and helper so we stayed in the same house for a couple of weeks. I cooked the food, washed the dishes and one day was asked to cut his hair with shears. To partake of his crown chakra energy. Thank you Zen Master Hogen!!

During that time one night when I slept I had a very vivid dream and I dreamt that I was lying on a slab of stone dressed as an ancient king in armour and with a sword - an image very much like but predating by several years the image of the dead Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings Movie.

Hogen came towards me in his robes and he bent over me slowly from the waist and brought his mouth to my right eye and sucked it out from my eye socket! He slowly returned to vertical with my eye in his mouth, took it out with his fingers and then polished it up, put the eye back in his mouth, bent over me again and then blew back my eye, back in my eye socket again with his mouth!

Swami Satchitananda said that, "Yoga is the creation of Psychic Vision" He also said that Hogen and I are like a train. Hogen is the engine pushing from the back and I am the engine pulling from the front. From this I gathered that HOGEN WAS LOOKING AFTER MY BASE CHAKRA AND SATCHIDANANDA WAS LOOKING AFTER MY CROWN CHAKRA AND ALL THE CHAKRAS ABOVE THE CROWN CHAKRA.

The next day Hogen had done something really stupid. He had put some olbas oil, a strong oil containing oil of wintergreen, on his finger and by accident put it into his right eye and was in pain. The students rushed to help him wash out the oil but I have pictures of Hogen wearing a piratical black eyepatch, "eye, eye, me hearties!" for a week afterwards.

I came to understand later that Hogen had indeed cleared up my psychic vision through many experiences I received later.

Indeed, every true student will have similar experiences of when the Spiritual Master took on some of their Karma, with great effort and pain sometimes, in order to help their evolution.

Its what Masters have been created to do. And without my dream knowledge, like all the other students, I would have thought Hogen had done something stupid too. We can not know what they are really doing.

Taking "The Path of Blame" they even do stupid things to test out the hearts of their students.

The Initiation of Illumination is something precious, only to be given away to the worthy. The student must know that, "They have to be there before they can stay there" thus many students are "Blown Out" before they can do any harm.

And then, after many years of work, zazen, meditation, with Zen master Hogen I meditated on the Koan of Ramana Maharshi, "Who am I" They call the Koan, "The Vichara" based upon the work of Ramana Maharshi which occurred when he became Enlightened.

At the age of sixteen, Ramana Maharshi was full of the Bhakti, the love of God, after visiting the statues of the 63 Nayanar Saints of Tamil Nadu at the Meenakshi Temple Madurai who all acheived Enlightenment upon their deaths invariably because they kept a promise at the cost of their lives. He decided to lie on the floor and see what death was like. Such was his determination to see his own death, when he returned from his experience he was Enlightened.

The best way he could describe his experience was the Vichara which when followed gives you the experience of your Soul or Enlightenment.

Later in life Ramana said that to become Enlightened you need to have the help of an Enlightened Master. And indeed Ramana Maharshi was a genuine Master. All of his real students had the experience of seeing him on the astral plane helping; removing their blockaages, energising their causal bodies causing them to weep.

But when he was asked, "Who was your Master' he had no reply but hinted that an Ascended Master had taken an interest in his Enlightenment.

Ekhard Tolle essentially had the same experience after much misery and the feeling of wanting to die he woke up enlightened one day and since has tried to describe to others how he did it through a description of the "Normal' Mind and its associated "Pain Body"

The Pain Body essentially is the Selfish Competitive Ego made up of a mass of Selfish Desire Blockages which are coated with the Pain of Trauma Formed Negative Karmic Mass.

The Technique of the Energy Enhancement Seven Step Process is the only Enlightenment process outside of Scientology which can dissolve Energy Blockages. Without it Buddhism, Hinduism, Ramana Maharshism, Ekhard Tollism, Sri Niscardattaism, any other Enlightenment process depends on the Master to remove the energy blockages.

In Energy Enhancement, we help but we give full instructions to our students on how to Eliminate the Energy Blockages of the Angry, Painful, Selfish, Competitive, Fearful, Desire filled Ego and all of our students report on their personal success in eliminating their own Energy Blockages by themselves.

When I meditated on the Vichara, "Who Am I" Immediately I had the enlightenment experience of travelling along the Antahkarana out of the body to a place where was all my past lives hanging in space thousands of them in a neat matrix. I decided to enter into one of them and saw that past life gaining much experience. I knew I could spend more time there investigating my past lives and the mad personalities, because not enlightened, in charge of those lives but I knew that essentially apart from having it, it was useless.

I then decided to go higher. There too I gained much experience from meeting Ascended Masters.

When I went to Zen Master Hogen in Dokusan with this experience, after I told him about the past lives he said, "We can explore this area of the Astral Plane for 10,000 years and get nowhere!"

Then I told him about going higher along the Antahkarana and meeting the Ascended Masters and he smiled! And in another space with my psychic vision I saw his aura expanding, gold, and enfolding me in the energy of his love...

SATCHIDANAND - ENERGY ENHANCEMENT TALES OF ENLIGHTENMENT

Now, the current terminology is that of scripts or people programs which create, "A mind of metal and wheels" - Tolkien.

For example the Strategies of the ego; Poor me, violator and selfish competitive star are all scripts, and the egotistical payoff of all these scripts is that of attention from the other person to steal their energy.

In Transactional Analysis whenever the communication between the ego states get out of alignment, they do so because there is a script involved.

One of the problems of all script psychotherapy is that the psychotherapists have no methodology apart from talking to deprogram you from using the scripts, to remove the energy blockages.

The colours, texture and clarity of the image were intensely vivid, more so than television or cinema. Psychedelic is the term I would best use to describe the experience.

The snake reared its head up to my face and I could perceive that its tail seemed to emanate from just beneath my navel. As the image was so vivid and it seemed that the head of the snake would strike my face.

I abruptly opened my eyes and came out of the meditation somewhat in a state of shock. Seeing the room and other meditators behaving as normal, I closed my eyes and returned to the meditation wondering what else I might find there. There was no occurrence of such a vivid visualization during the sitting.

"When I started to meditate I got the feeling that I needed to Ground, to go down.. I tried to breathe and concentrated on my breathing but the need to go down was more strong and I felt that all of the energy was directed into the zone of the pelvis and the legs.

The pelvis started to vibrate. All this part of my body and after there was hot and cold energy through my spine.

At this moment I asked for help and I felt something fold down like a veil and I felt naked.

I got the will to cry and I cried and the lower part of my body continued to vibrate.

Then I wanted to laugh. Then there was an emptiness in my chest and head.

During this process I got a lot of images in my head like a film but not connecting with this present life. I was seeing some of my past lives I think."

We explained to Laura that this was just the process of clearing of negative energies.

The So-Called kundalini experiences are just that.

Later Laura was still shaking every meditation for a week and cold and heat, but after that things calmed down and Her vibrating "Culo" as we joked, because she comes from Argentina and the above is translated from the Spanish, stopped shaking as she went on to better things in her meditation.

As when we went to Parana, a city in Argentina above Rosario on the River Parana where it is 50Km wide, the second largest River in the world.

Later, we were discussing with one of the leaders of the Group discounted Energy Enhancement Rates for the whole group. She was telling me of her Kundalini Experience which she said had changed her life.

When I was telling her of what was possible, she said "But we are not like you, We cannot do these things."

The Energy of the Soul was growing in me. As I Spoke, the energy was released. I said, "Oh my Daughter, If you but knew WHO YOU WERE, you would not say that!!"

At the back of the room was a Yoga Teacher, A REGULAR GROUP MEMBER, who was just standing there. Upon these words. Feeling this Energy, she raised her arms into the air and stood like that, shaking and crying for the next Half Hour. Shaking, crying. KUNDALINIED!!!

Satchidanand's ENERGY ENHANCEMENT Stories:-

After practising Zazen Meditation with Roshi Hogen Daido Yamahata for a time I began to feel him cleaning my Base Chakra every time I meditated. I was also doing Energy Enhancement techniques at that time which speeded up the meditative process. He used to wake me up early every morning and say "Get out of bed, Meditate Now!!"

Then by accident or by Luck. And to be Spiritual, you have to be lucky. I came across Swami Satchidananda of Yogaville.

I went to one of his talks and at the end of the talk he said "Lets Meditate for a couple of minutes."

So, we chanted Ha Ri OM and started to meditate.

I found myself one hundred feet in the air looking down at my body meditating below.

I looked up and there was Swami Satchidananda one hundred feet higher, saying "Come on up!! Come on up!!"

So I though that perhaps it would be a good thing to learn from him.....

In my interview with him I said what happened and said that I only had one problem in that I had heard that you were only supposed to have one Guru and Roshi Hogen was doing a really good job with me.

Satchidananda asked if I had any problems between the teachings of Hinduism and Zen. I said "NO, no problems!!" because I understood that the terminology of Meditation in Hinduism meant "The flow of Energy towards a Point of concentration" and Meditation or Zen in Japan meant Nirbija Samadhi or Enlightenment.

So he told me that I should think of Hogen and him as two engines on a train. Hogen was the one pushing FROM THE BASE CHAKRA. He was the one pulling FROM THE CROWN CHAKRA.

Hogen was the one looking after the base chakra. Satchidananda was the one looking after the Crown Chakra.

And this was proved to me later in his ashram and indeed everywhere I met him with incredible experiences of the higher planes, of Initiation, of telepathy indeed all the tales of Masters of the past came true when I was with him!!

And when I went on my "Grand Tour" of India I met up "Luckily" with many great Yogis and meditators. And with each one I had a wonderful Spiritual experience.

Sri Yogendra of Bombay had the reputation of not suffering fools gladly. If anyone was disrespectful he used to beat them up and throw them out!!

When he was young they used to put him in darkened rooms so that people could see the Prana, blue, rushing like electricty around his body.

He was 96 years old when I had my Interview with him. All I could do was to sit at his feet and remain quiet whilst he told me of his experiences. Spread out across the Whole Universe. In New York in the Thirties. Healing the children of Millionaires he earned enough to create his Ashram.

For the next day all I could feel was the energy rushing through my body Up and DOWN!! With a great Noise!!

That night, Yogendra told his son. "I can't seem to retain my Prana as well as I should. I think it is time to go!"

That night he died.

Same but different experiences with Hogen, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Swami Satchidananda, Father Bede Griffiths and last but not least, Osho.

I think I saw Dance in the style of Devi Dhyani's Sacred Dance from another person for the first time from The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Lin Huan-Min of Taiwan in their dances Cursive II and III to the music of John Cage videoed in 2003.

It is not the fact that they practise the Long hand style of the martial Arts of Southern China or Tai Chi and Kung Fu and Hatha Yoga although these certainly help movement from the center. It is not the performance style of the Beijing Opera or the wonderful condition and training of their dancers.

It is the aspiration of their dancers and their teachers for the opening of the Heart. It is the meditation and buddhism and evolution of their Director, Lin Huan-Min. It is the fact that everyone in the dance company practises meditation.

In the same way it is not Devi Dhyanis performances as a principal Baillarina or the fact that she is a certificated teacher of the ballet. Nor the fact that she spent time in Kalakshetra school of Bharata Natyam in Chennai with the help of the Indian Embassy of Buenos Aires. Nor her training in Modern Dance.

No, it is not the historical form of the dance as there are many in this world. More, it is the inner energy of the dance created by meditation. Since then they travelled India several times for 8 to 11 months at a time, meeting people like Sri Yogendra of Bombay, Swami Chidananda of the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, Osho, Sathya Sai Baba and visiting Auroville and the Ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi over which period many psychic events occurred. They have taught workshops in Yoga, Dance and Meditation and have taken groups of people around the Ashrams of India.

Now, they teach Energy Enhancement through videos sent by post and now downloadable online with an ADSL Broadband connection and through trainings in the Costa Brava of Spain, see above, and on trips to the Taj Mahal in India.

They teach the Three Levels of Energy Enhancement in individual sessions to their students, removing negative energies and gently raising Kundalini Energy.

i am really glad i met you and devi. all your knowledge and teachings have had a life Changing impact on me, which will let me see the world with new eyes again and not only eyes as i learnt but also from different chakras. thank you.

i arrived safely in india. went to shop already some indian clothes, but first of all i energetically cleaned my room with the monks chanting and put some energy enhancement protection columns around it. the moskitos - i could not really be bothered about these, but i will get the moskito net for the bed and for the windows too, to be sure to be sure.

of course i already checked the food. they put me already on quite a diet and they always serve rice, which drops down as a rock using energy enhancement initiation 5, so I know all rice here in india contains pesticides. some stuff goes up , but not a lot, so i will go for the bananas instead and always have some in my room from now on.

i feel as if i am not quite arrived yet. i do not quite realise that i am here in india in an ashram yet for the next six months, learning more about yoga even if the horns on the street outside keep reminding me.

i am always off on thursdays and also will have some time in between to do some Energy Enhancement meditation. i also did meditation before going to bed and it is helpful for me to still write down stuff i grounded in my spiritual diary, to just know what i work on next.

one of the next Energy Enhancement meditations will also be the situation of leaving the Energy Enhancement September 2005 course. Of being attached to an Energy Enhancement place where i felt comfortable and felt at home. Of having people around me that are understanding and sharing and open and willing to improve or be more happy. i will let you know what happens, you might probably know already, but i let you know anyway.

so here i go! with lots of helpful knowledge ( i had a good flight grounding the negative energies a lot, and actually not being so tired when i arrived).
