DOUBT AND UNCERTAINTY
There are two sorts of doubt:
-
Normal and everyday doubt.
-
Neurotic (irrational and unbalanced) doubt.
As we live and experience many various circumstances, people, and situations, it is quite natural to experience doubt and uncertainty concerning ourselves, others, and our life. This is perfectly normal and is an area of life that we need to integrate in a balanced way.
People that cannot accept a normal level of doubt and uncertainty generally develop hard and fast beliefs and perspectives on life. This can have the effect of reducing and narrowing our mind and it's ability to experience variety producing rigid, clinging, xenophobic, judgemental and inflexible mind's and personalities.
The inability to accept a certain and natural level of uncertainty can turn people into tyrants, extremists, fanatics, and neurotics. In the case of the tyrant, everybody else is expected and forced to completely agree with the tyrants way of viewing life and nobody is allowed to express or communicate any other way of living life.
The golden guide suggests "holistic integration, balance, and moderation in ALL aspects of life." This prevents the production of fanatics, extremists, narrow minds, and tyrants.
